What's in a Green Tea Frappucino?

To Whom It May Concern:

First of all, thank you for considering me for the job as an adjunct writer for your spiritual studies magazine. Below is my story to meet the requirements to further be considered for this position:

It’s no secret that a lot of people love Starbucks, including myself. Starbucks is my favorite store and I am not ashamed to profess my love for the place that is part of the solution in getting my creative juices flowing. Can you imagine the mixture of homemade pastries, coffee, and tea fill the air with an aroma? Yes, all of this stays in my mind for the rest of the day when I leave Starbucks.

When I glimpse outside, my dream of working online becomes a reality when I see the images of the miniature dogwood trees surrounding the spacious area for using laptop computers. Some mornings, I wait patiently in the crowded drive thru line to get my Hazelnut Green Tea Frappucino.

After leaving Starbucks, the miniature trees wave and smile at me as I am driving out of the private driveway of Starbucks. The moment I take a long sip of my Frappucino, the taste animates my body and I become my alter ego. My taste buds have a crush on Starbucks. That’s when my creativity takes over and the inspiration begins. A million and one spiritual visions begin after I spend ten minutes of meditating and getting connected with Spirit. As I sit and sip on my Frappucino, I allow the visions to come and go as they please, but I immediately stare down at my handwritten to-do list and began focusing on those tasks.

One way or another, my visions begin to be focused on what I am doing and the Holy Spirit begins speaking to me. That’s when I know that I am working in collaboration with the Ultimate Creative Force, the Divine Spirit, and the knowledge begins to form and that’s when I put pen to paper or hand to keyboard.

And, now the magic begins….

Story Plot: It all began when Linelle Destiny was in her room writing in her notebook journaling about her day from school. Linelle Destiny received a spiritual vision that would change her life (and others) forever. Along with this vision, as Linelle Destiny is serving her community using her math skills, she discovers a need followed by another spiritual vision. Destiny has this big idea about forming a club—The Secret Sisters Club—that would change life as they all know it at their little school and in her small town. Running a club is no joke, but can Linelle Destiny and her friends, Barbara, Carlise, Kendall, and Trinity handle all of the life lessons that come their way? Only time will tell….

Chapter 1: Big Dreams

When they made Thanksgiving break, they should have put it at a good time of year. But no, they just had to go and make their holiday during the wet, nasty weather right before winter. Kids should be able to enjoy their time off from school, not spend it staring out the window. If I had my choice Thanksgiving break would be in the spring, when all the flowers are out and it’s not too hot yet. That’s a time to be thankful for, if you ask me.
But today? It’s raining like crazy outside. Always is, this time of year. It’s too cold to go playing in the rain and squishy mud, hunting for crawfish. That would at least make it interesting, but if I went out right now I’d just get a chill. I’ve seen pictures of other places where the trees have changed to bright fall colors and there’s a nice wind going, but no rain. That might be nice. In Many, Louisiana, the leaves just turn brown and fall off. They get all soggy and gross in the rain and that’s that. I’m Destiny, but the way. Linelle Destiny Sycamores, if you want to get fancy, but I’d rather you didn’t.

I don’t have time to finish this in this writing session, but at least you get an idea of how I can get a bit creative or spice it up academically. Whatever strikes your fancy!

If you want it right, let me write! I’m your gal.

My Desk Objects Are Talking to Me

As I am typing my homework at my desk, my drink coaster stands out to me. The message is loud and clear, “Teachers Plant Seeds That Grow Forever”.

I got this coaster my first year of teaching middle school math, specifically, grades 7 and 8. It’s been over 11 years since I have had this coaster and every time I set up my ‘virtual office’, I find myself taking this coaster with me because a student gave it to me during Teacher Appreciation week towards the end of the school. At that time, I was just happy to get a gift after such a rocky start my first year (that’s a whole different post). As I have reflected on my life, I realize that this is true. There were many teachers in my life whether it was from a professional or personal experience. I have learned that people come into your life for one of two reasons: (a) A life lesson; or (b) A life blessing.

I am also looking at my lamp and it does not have such an impact on me like my coaster. The lamp is just an object to me that helps me see when I am trying to complete my work, especially homework. I don’t like comparing my items at my desk, but the Spirit led me to focus on the coaster. I think the beauty of it all is that the lamp is a symbol for shining bright and let our Light illuminate others. When these two objects work together, I view them both as a symbol of serving others and staying true to our purpose. Who would have thought that a lamp and coaster could speak!  Well, their voices were heard tonight and it’s plain and clear that their advice to me was to serve and stay true to my purpose. As you read my post, what do these objects speak to you?

Until next time,

Alise
